Looking For Inspiration? Check Out Tandem Double Buggy

Buying a Tandem Double Buggy

A tandem double buggy can be a great choice if you have twins, or children who are close in age. They're narrower than side-by-side buggies and ideal for navigating tight spaces, such as doorways, on public transport and on rough terrain.

Some convert into travel systems that take 2 carrycots or car seats. They are often heavier, longer and less stable than a single pushchair.

Convertible

There are many options for adding a second seat or making a single stroller double. The UPPAbaby V2 is spacious, gorgeous stroller. It can be easily changed from a single to a double by adding a Rumble seat. It is more expensive and less maneuverable because the second seat is placed on top of the first seat. The Nuna Demi Grow is a similar model with great seating flexibility, however it lacks under-seat storage when used in doubles mode.

Other alternatives include all-terrain twin buggies as well as fixed-wheel joggers which can be used to accommodate two children. These are more expensive, but they are made to last longer on rough terrain and have a higher resale price.

Independent recline of the seat

If you're looking for a double buggy to transport children of various age groups, then you'll need a buggy that has an recline that is independent for both seats. This will allow your older child to rest while the baby is in the bassinet and vice versa.

You'll also have to think about the size of the stroller as this will affect the ease of get through doors and on public transportation. If  pushchairsandprams  are narrow, you may think about a side by side pushchair, such as the Mountain Buggy Duet. It has a footprint similar to a single stroller, but can still fit two seats and car seat adaptors.

Tandem buggies tend to be longer than side by side models, making them more difficult to maneuver up and down kerbs. However, they can accommodate more combinations of car seats, carrycots and seats and are the perfect choice for twins and siblings of various age groups. They are priced higher than single buggies to double however they're worth it if you intend to keep it for a few years. They will also retain an impressive amount of value when sold once your children have outgrown the buggie.

Another important feature to look for is if the seat backs are able to recline independently of one another as this will let you place your child in the best position for napping or observation. This is especially important when you have a child younger than in the rear seat who may be inclined to lie down and relax while the older child wants to sit up and look around their surroundings.

Some brands have a unique design that allows the back of their vehicles to recline into a position that's nearly flat, which is ideal for newborns. For instance the iCandy Orange has raised stadium-style seating and can recline the toddler seat included and the additional RumbleSeat into multiple positions to give your kids a a choice of where to sit, as well as providing an excellent UPF 50+ canopy with windows that can be seen from afar.

Wider than twin buggies

You don't need to have twins to benefit from a wider double buggy. They're perfect for siblings of different ages and allow you to move around without worrying about your children touching. They're usually a bit larger with one seat positioned behind the other and usually providing a flat recline for infants (or a more upright position for toddlers).

A popular choice is the Mountain Buggy Duet, which is the tiniest side-by-side model available and has a footprint similar to one buggy. It has an adjustable handle that makes it easier for parents to push, and a handbrake that is helpful on steep hills. It is suitable to use from birth and it can be combined with a variety of car seats and carrycots.

Another alternative is the iCandy Wave, which has an easy one-click fold and can be used in mono or duo mode. Its innovative frame can be expanded to allow for a second seat and it can be used with two car seats or carrycots which makes it an ideal option for older siblings that wish to sit together and share the view. It's a bit longer than other models, but it's easy to steer and has soft suspension that is able to handle the kerbs.

There are a variety of 3-wheeler tandems with inline wheels that offer stability and swift steering. Take a look at Phil and Teds inline models, or iCandy Peach and Pear buggies. These can often be folded into one buggy if you are limited in space at home, or need to transport it from the car to the bus station.

Be aware that a double-wide buggy is heavier and more bulkier than one that is compact. Be sure to know what you want before you buy. It will be used on buses, trains and subways frequently, so it should be easy to manage and use. You may also have to move it on and off the car seat when taking your children to school or nursery so you'll need to ensure it's easy to maneuver in tight spaces.

From your birth, you are a suitable candidate

If you're expecting twins or have a second child after your first, you're going need to find a stroller that can accommodate the whole family. Double buggies tend to be slightly heavier, bulkier and cost more than single strollers. However, they can also be more maneuverable through narrower doors or around obstacles such as curbs. Many are also compatible with piggyback ride-along boards (either from the manufacturer or through a separate accessory purchase) which means you can carry three children at the same time.

Tandem pushchairs place one child in front the other. They are a good option if your children are of similar ages and are able to get along. They're not 100% secure. Siblings sitting side-by-side can punch or kick each other, and children of different heights could argue over who sits taller. A tandem high-low model could solve this problem by elevating the seat to the rear, which will prevent your older child from sitting on the bottom and not getting the best view.

The iCandy Wave is a good alternative for parents looking for a convertible double buggy that includes a carrycot that can accommodate both infants and an older child. It has a clever frame which increases in size when you add the second child seat. It also folds flat for storage that is compact. The cushioned seats are comfortable, the straps easy to fasten, and the buckles are among the most impressive we've seen in any of our tests. The canopies have a generous size and UPF 50+ protection, and windows that peek out. Both seats can be reclined independently.

The only drawback to the iCandy tandem is that it is a bit expensive. But a high-quality tandem will last you for many years and have the highest resale value, so at the end of the day you'll likely recover some of the cost. It also doesn't offer the same variety of seating options as some of our other top choices however the iCandy is a good choice for families who don't wish to spend a lot.
